Anti-tank ditch

Product Code: AT/DITCH

This wargames terrain model represents a section of anti-tank ditch, which has also been flooded.

The surface detail on the embankments has been left relatively smooth and with small pock marks. This means that you have more choice in decoration, such as painting as beach, dunes, grass, mud or even flocked. The water surface is dimpled to represent deep water, which with a slight breeze will riple. One of the best ways to give the impression of water is to paint them with a darker patch in the centre, light grey highlights brushed on and then as many coats of gloss varnish painted on top. The dimples will also add surface interest to your painting scheme and reflect the light when over painted with lots of coats of gloss varnish. These models could be used to represent streams at 25 to 28mm scale.

In addition, the width of the ditch is just right for mounting a road section on top (with the aid of some blue-tac we would suggest to keep it in place) and forming a causeway. Causeways are raised sections of road that run through the centre of marshes or flooded land. Examples of these were located at the exits from Utah beach. These were bitterly contested as they formed the only way inland from the coastal bridgehead and they therefore formed a bottleneck to the allied advance. The defending  German troops flooded the area behind the beach to form a defensive barrier and unfortunatley many allied paratroopers were drowned as they landed in these flooded areas with full packs and parachutes.

These ditch sections can also be used at scales for 15mm, 20mm, 25mm, 28mm or 30mm. Or to represent streams, rivers, dykes or canals, or at 6mm, 30mm, 40mm, 1:48, 1:72, 1:100. It would also be possible to use them at smaller scales such as  1:300, 1:600 for naval ironclad or sailing ship wargames terrain.

This terrain model is also suitable for 1/48 scale model dioramas.
